Marking A Milestone

As we reflect on our 100th year in business, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate the people behind our brand, the bounty of our orchards, and a few of our favorite dishes of the season.

Perfect Autumn Olives

Perfect Autumn Olives

  • 6 servings


  • 1 (6 oz.) can Lindsay® Naturals Green Ripe Olives, drained
  • 1 ½ tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Three 2-inch strips orange peel, removed with a vegetable peeler
  • 1 ½ teaspoons freshly grated orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon coarsely crushed fennel seed

Cooking Directions

  1. Heat oven to 375°F.
  2. Toss all of the ingredients together and place in a 2-cup decorative table-ready baking dish. Place in the middle of the oven and bake until the olives are hot, 5 minutes.
  3. Place the baking dish on a larger serving plate or small platter and serve immediately with frilled bamboo toothpicks.

Thanksgiving Wine Pairings

With a table full of food, you’ll need a wine that can compliment a variety of big flavors. A rule of thumb for cleansing your palate between bites is to go for acidity, and maybe a bit of sweetness. Don’t let wine intimidate you this year. These are all under $25.

The classic, light-bodied, go-to red. You’ll want its bright cherry and cranberry flavors throughout the meal. Try this: Love, Oregon Pinot Noir. Or be adventurous and go for a Gamay.



It’s festive to pop a bottle of bubbly. Sparkling wines are always crowd pleasers — you just can’t go wrong with this fruity and versatile choice. Try Scharffenberger Brut Excellence.



Zins have a great, silky mouthfeel with notes of jam, clove and berries, and make a great pairing for turkey (even a dry turkey). We recommend Cline Ancient Vines.



Huh? It’s pronounced “Ge-VOORTZ-tra-meener.” A mouthful in many senses, but its floral nose and minerality will accentuate the flavors on any table. Get your hands on Claiborne & Churchill.

Love & Care for Generations

Our California orchards are located in the Central Valley — one of the world’s most abundant growing regions. The olive harvest typically runs from September through the first two weeks of November. California has about 19,000 acres dedicated to producing table olives, from which Lindsay harvests six varieties: Manzanillo, Sevillano, Mission, Ascolano, Barouni and Obliza.

All our olives are hand-harvested. The industry has been researching ways to mechanically harvest since the 1950’s, but it’s difficult to get the olives off the trees without damaging the fruit or the tree, so we stick to good ol’ fashioned hand picking.

We harvest olives when they’re immature and still green. As the fruit matures, they’ll turn red, then purple, and finally black. By the way, olives are VERY bitter and inedible before they’re processed into the savory olives we know and love.

Olive trees are multigenerational; the oldest California orchards have been producing fruit for about 130 years. Like our favorite tree, Lindsay is a multigenerational company with multigenerational employees. Our groves are farmed by multigenerational families, and we constantly hear from customers who have enjoyed our olives for generations.

Olives are truly our way of life, and we’re humbled that we’re able to bring you such a special fruit. We’re looking forward to the next 100 harvests, though we’re going to enjoy them one at a time.

I’m lucky enough to call the beautiful, ancient olive groves in Corning, California my office. Our crops are lovingly nurtured from when they’re tiny buds until they’re safely in their cans and jars, sitting happily on the grocery store shelf.

We hand-picked our 100th harvest as we always have, with a total focus on the health of our orchards, trees, surrounding environment, and of course, our people. The end goal, of course, is to bring you the best quality, best tasting olives possible. Here’s a little peek into our annual harvest.
